The popularity of the dog as a companion, as a guardian of property, as an assistant in the pursuit of game, and as the object of a pleasurable hobby, has never been so great as it is at the present time.

Dog ownership is growing, literally, by leaps and bounds.

If you happen to be a dog owner who has owned dogs for a significant period of time, you already know the great joys and rewards that come with dog ownership. If you are a new dog owner, perhaps after a few growing pains, you will soon learn exactly how enriching it can be to have a dog in your life.

Maybe right now you are just thinking about getting a dog for a companion. If you're not sure, go hang out with some friends or family members who have dogs and get the feel of whether or not a dog would fit in well with your life. Another great place to go is your local animial shelter, I must forewarn you that may fall in love with not just one dog, but many.

You might even consider volunteering or asking for a job at your local animal shelter. In doing so you will be able to hands on experience with the dogs themselves and on a day to day basis. There is no better way to finding out if something is right for you, than actually trying it out.

In a very short amount of time after you bring a dog into your or your families life, you will be treating as if it's a part of the family. In fact, your dog will be a part of the family and if you're new to having a dog as a companion you might very well be surprised as to how quickly and deeply they will engrain themselves to your heart.
